Adoption Fees

Midcoast Humane provides valuable care and treatment for all kinds of pets in need. Last year, nearly 3,500 pets came through our doors, many of those animals in need of some medical intervention, others needing an extraordinary amount of care. Variable adoption pricing allows us to provide top quality care for all pets. Having a higher adoption fee for some pets who will find a home more quickly enables us to care for pets in need of life-saving medical and behavioral intervention. Our variable pricing helps us to provide excellent care for pets who reside in our shelter for a longer period of time.

 

What Does My Adoption Fee Cover?

 Your adoption fee covers the cost of care for each animal while they await adoption. That includes daily medical care and monitoring, clean and comfortable accommodations, thorough behavioral assessments, daily exercise and enrichment activities.

A full list of services for cats and dogs is listed below:

Cats: All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, have received rabies and distemper vaccinations, flea, tick and de-worming treatments, and other medical treatments as needed. All cats over six months of age are tested for FIV, Leukemia, and Heartworm diseases.

Dogs: All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and tested for heartworm and Lyme disease. They receive preventative heartworm treatment (6 months+) as well as rabies (12 weeks+), distemper, bordetella, and canine influenza vaccinations. All dogs receive flea, tick and de-worming treatments, and other medical treatments as needed. All dogs are microchipped.
