Adoption Forms & Process

Our Brunswick campus is open to potential adopters everyday except for Wednesdays from 11am – 3pm.

To adopt any of the animals at our Brunswick campus, please visit us during our open hours.

If you are interested in adopting any of the animals located at the Edgecomb campus or in foster care, please follow the instructions below.

Our Current Adoption Process

1. View all of our available animals at MidcoastHumane.Org. Each animal has a picture and by clicking on that picture, you can view the animal’s bio. We have included as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision about which animal may be a good fit for your home.

2. The next step depends on the animal of interest. If you are interested in adopting:

a. An animal that is located at our Brunswick campus, you should visit us during our open hours (11am – 3pm every day but Wednesday). Our knowledgeable staff will guide you through the adoption process in person and you can often take home an animal that same day.

b. An animal located at our Edgecomb Campus or an animal in foster care, you will need to fill out an application. There is a red “Adopt This Animal” button in each of these animals’ profiles.

c. An animal at a satellite location, you should visit that specific location and speak to a member of the staff.

3. Once you submit an online application, a member of our team will be in touch! We review applications in the order that we receive them, and a member of our team will reach out via phone or email as soon as possible.

4. At your adoption appointment, you will be brought to meet the animal. A member of our staff will be with you and will be able to answer any animal specific questions that arise during your meeting. If you choose to adopt, we will then process the adoption fee (we accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards) and have you sign the adoption contract and any applicable waivers at that time—and that’s it!

What to Expect After Submitting an Application

Midcoast Humane adoption staff endeavor to contact every potential adopter that submits an adoption application in the order in which the applications arrive. As a result, it may take several days for our staff to contact you, and for highly adoptable animals like kittens and puppies, those wait times may be longer due to the overwhelming application volume. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we review an incredible number of applications with limited staffing.

Please understand that submitting an application does not mean that you have been approved to adopt an animal. If we are not able to reach you with the contact information you have provided, we may move on to the next interested adopter. Staff are available by phone during open hours, but as a small organization, inbound calls do slow our adoption activities.

If you believe your application has been overlooked, and it has been over 72 hours since you submitted it, we encourage you to call and inquire about the status of your application.

Consequently, we reserve the right to decline adoptions to individuals who employ aversive training techniques including the use of prong collars, shock collars, or electric fences. Our commitment remains unwavering in ensuring every animal finds a loving and supportive home environment. Thank you for understanding our dedication to the welfare of homeless animals.
