On February 11, 2026, we took in 62 cats from our partner organizations across Maine.
Eleven cats came to us from our longtime partners at Somerset Humane Society in Skowhegan to help relieve overcrowding in their shelter.
An additional 51 cats came to us through the Maine State Animal Welfare Program, following the removal of animals from an overburdened owner. Our friends at the Kennebec Valley Humane Society also stepped in to help care for other cats from this same situation.
Many of the cats arriving from the Animal Welfare Program have immediate medical needs. Some are pregnant, some are suffering from upper respiratory infections, and many have painful ingrown nails that will require surgical intervention. As you can imagine, the cost of providing medical treatment, food, and daily care for so many cats is significant, but we are committed to giving each of them the second chance at a happy life they deserve.
We are especially grateful for donations of cat food, cat litter, and cat toys, as well as monetary support, to ensure these cats have everything they need during their recovery.
As always, thank you for your support as we work to care for homeless pets from across Maine.
