Thank you for the incredible outpouring of support during our Emergency Funding Campaign!
On March 16th, Midcoast Humane closed to the public, putting an end to income from adoptions and the Creature Comforts thrift store. 100 animals were immediately moved into foster care to ensure their comfort during the pandemic. With the health and safety of the staff in mind, staff members started working reduced hours on March 20th.
On March 30th, we began adoptions by appointment with full PPE for our staff, but the income coming in from that was minimal.
On April 3rd, we launched our Emergency Funding campaign, and shared the story of Copernicus, a long-time resident at the shelter who finally found his new family during the pandemic. Read about Copernicus and the Emergency Funding Campaign here.
The donations we received through the Emergency Funding Campaign, coupled with a grant from the Paycheck Protection Program, have helped us get through this difficult time.
On June 19th, the Creature Comforts thrift store reopened, bringing in much needed revenue to our operations. Now, with transports set to resume in the coming weeks, we are well-positioned to move ahead.
We could not have done it without you. Thank you.
If you’d like to contribute but have not done so yet — we are still in need of donations to offset our loss of revenue. You will make a direct impact on the lives of the animals in our care with a donation of any amount.
Most importantly, we hope you are doing well, and are taking good care of yourselves and those around you. If you have a moment and want to send us a note on facebook, or a letter to share with the team working seven days a week caring for our animals — we will be sure to share them all! Please stay strong and remember to wash your paws!
