We are grateful for all that the community has done to help Lincoln County Animal Shelter, now Midcoast Humane. Now, more than ever before, we need the community’s support. We can’t help the animals of Lincoln County without it. Our name has changed, but our commitment to the animals of Lincoln County hasn’t.
To make it easier for people to bring adoptable animals home, Midcoast Humane is expanding our adoption program to better serve our 40-town territory, covering 1,000 square miles. We remain committed to providing stray, surrendered, abused and neglected animals with the best possible care, and finding them loving and well-suited adoptive homes. We’ve updated our adoption program to reach more adopters and to make the most of our limited resources. Adoptable pets are now available with local business partners, at mobile adoption events throughout Lincoln County, and at our Brunswick Campus on 30 Range Road. We continue to welcome stray and surrendered animals at our Edgecomb location in partnership with your local Animal Control Officer.
We’ve assembled some FAQs about these updates, but should you have additional questions, please reach out to Executive Director Trendy Stanchfield at (207) 449-1366 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Is Edgecomb shutting down?
Far from it! As an animal care intake facility, we are caring for animals in need of longer-term care to get ready for adoption. In addition to providing care, the Edgecomb campus will continue to accept stray animals brought in by Animal Control Officers and residents of our contracted towns, and welcome surrendered animals (by appointment) Monday – Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. We are unable to take appointments on Sundays. Please call (207) 449-1366 to schedule an appointment to surrender an animal.
Q: Why can’t the Edgecomb Campus remain open for adoptions?
In order to provide the best chance to get more animals adopted, we need to be out in the 40 towns that we serve. We see adopters from towns throughout Lincoln County, and understand that it has been difficult to get to the shelter during our limited hours. Unfortunately, we are not in a financial place to both increase our hours and get out into the community.
Q: Where can I adopt an animal?
Adoptable pets are available with local business partners (our “Satellite Adoption Locations”), at mobile community adoption events throughout our 40 contracted towns, and at our Brunswick Campus on Range Road. Adoptable animals are available at the locations below. You can view photos and descriptions of all of our animals and where they are currently available for adoption here.

Q: I need to surrender my animal. What do I do?
We accept surrendered animals by appointment at both our Edgecomb and Brunswick Campuses. It is our policy that every animal surrender be scheduled in advance for two reasons: 1) so that we can prepare for the animal’s arrival and 2) so that we can learn everything we can about the animal from their former owner, including past behavior, likes and dislikes, health history, and more. Collecting this information helps us determine the type of home best-suited for the animal. Please call us to schedule a surrender appointment at (207) 449-1366.
Q: Can I still volunteer at Midcoast Humane’s Edgecomb Campus?
We hope you will! Learn more about volunteering with Midcoast Humane here.
Q: I have donations for the shelter that I would like to bring to Midcoast Humane’s Edgecomb Campus.
Thank you! We would be delighted to accept your gift at our Edgecomb Campus any time Monday – Saturday between the hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Learn more about donating to Midcoast Humane
Q: What should I do if I find a stray animal?
Do your best to make sure the animal doesn’t belong to someone, then contact your local Animal Control Officer. We accept stray animals from the public at our Edgecomb Campus Monday – Saturday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm and at our Brunswick Campus on Range Road during open hours.
