Hi! I'm Baxter!
Are you looking for a hound dog?? Baxter is a handsome, very sweet boy who is looking for you! He first made his way to our shelter as a stray and was never claimed so we have no history on him. ☹ He was adopted twice but returned when each family felt that he needed a different type of home than they could provide for him. This time we hope to find a better fit for Master Baxter. He is a young lovable goofball, a work- in-progress if you will, waiting for someone who understands the breed and has the time, patience and commitment to work with him to mold him into the wonderful house pet we know he will be. We have no idea if he ever lived in a home before his brief adoptions so patience and understanding will be the key to his success! Baxter has exhibited separation anxiety and will need continued work on his leash manners and housebreaking. He would also benefit from basic manners and impulse control training in order to help him solidify his commands and bond more thoroughly with his people. At this point we feel that Baxter would do best in an adult-only home. He has a high prey drive so no cats, small animals or free roaming chickens at his new home. If there is a dog in his eventual home, a meet and greet would be required to see how Baxter feels about a canine sibling. Baxter is a “Go Getter” so the best home for him would be an active one that can keep him busy as an outlet for his energy as he is the type of dog who needs a job! Baxter will NEED consistent training and mental simulation to help him settle into the home and thrive. He is full of good energy, easy to walk on leash and loves his treats. He would love nothing more to go long walks with you to sniff out and look for silly rabbits and other critters!
If you feel that you can be the special someone that Baxter’s hound-dog heart is craving, please call the shelter at (207) 449-1366, Ext. 206 or stop by and ask to meet this happy friendly guy in person. He is waiting for you!
